However, there are a bunch of people on the Romraider forum that have done this, so I will have support there. The hard part is figuring out what those tables represent. Someone on the ecuhacking board has written a routine that finds the addresses of tables within the bin. With the bin file, you can disassemble it to the assembly program the hex represents. There doesn't seem to be many open source BIN filed laying around because of the bigger companies but also because I'm sure that many don't have the assets to get ECUs, and risk destroying them for an open sourced project without crowd funding. I believe once you can read the ECU, that it is all in ASM, and that you would need to be able to link different sections and values of the ECU to human readable values. How many of us are ordering our own CNC machines for billet parts. It's a cool project, no doubt, but it is something that is already being done on a professional manner. It's like saying you'll make your own operating system so you don't have to pay for mzoft, or Apple, or learn how to use *nix. a lot of companies are selling everything you need, because they have made the parts, have spent hours on development, program interfaces, etc. It is a long process- the cables, the files, etc. I guess the first step is to try to read my bin file.Įveryone wants to pinch that mighty penny and reinvent the wheel when it comes to this flash tune stuff. Lastly, yes, I am using the ECU flashing procedure DIY (for the K5/K6 1000) found on this site because somewhere I read it would work for the K6/K7 750, and the ECU pinout appears to be the same. One reason for this is because there is a plugin in that software that allows me to plug my wideband into the computer via a serial port, USB to serial converter, and datalog directly into the same csv file as the rest of my data is going into.Īnyone who is interested in learning more about tuning with ROMRaider can Google that word and find their forum (too lazy to see if linking to another forum is against posting rules). I would like to be able to rewrite the ECU code to work with the datalogging system that is already in place within the ROMRaider enviornment. I know there are some packagages that claim they can datalog, but I don't know what they are able to log. That would be next after I am confident I have a correct bin with correct definition files. This presents no problem if someone has read your stock bin from the chip and has made it available online, but it can become ground-halting if no one has completed this yet.Īlso, I have not even begun to look into how to datalog yet using this setup. On the bikes, there is no OBD-II port, and therefore there is only an easy way to WRITE to the ECU. The major hangup in this whole process is that there is a very easy way to READ, WRITE, and datalog on the Subarus via the OBD-II port. Additionally, it means that I could release definitions for other people to use to tune their bikes. I want to go this route because I am already familiar with the ROMRaider package from my WRX. Also, I was reading on one forum that people have hacked a bunch of sportbike ECU's, and were using ROMRaider to edit them. Yeah, I don't have the money to get into the Woolich stuff. I think most of the paper trail is out there, it's just trying to put it all together. I have limited time to work on this, but eventually, I may figure it out myself and compile all of my information into one post. I come from the world of Subaru, where you buy a $160 cable, download ROMRaider, and start tuning.Īt any rate, I have bought what I believe to be everything needed to both flash to and read from the ECU, as well as a junk 600 ECU (has 1 or 2 broken pins) to practice with, but I was not able to find a junk, usable 750 ECU.Īnyways, does anyone here have any information on this? I am very interested.
My intention is not to take away business from anyone who may be flashing/tuning K6/K7 750's (or 600's for that matter, I think it's the same physical ECU with different programming onboard), but rather I just want to be able to mess with the tuning myself. Has anyone here attempted to learn how to flash an ECU themselves (K6 750)? I started finding info online from years ago about it, but after the guy who was pioneering it lost his job (and started using ECU flashing as his moneymaker), the info just stopped happening.
